Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’ve been overweight most of my life and I don’t intend on
making excuses about how I got to my maximum weight. My partner joined Slimming World in January 2016 and set an example of losing 4st in 9 months for me. Then come the day I woke up and realised I need to change my habits to become a healthier person and enjoy living life, rather than living to die. 31stAugust 2016 I stepped on the scales at my local Slimming World class weighing a huge 28st 9lbs, this was probably the lowest day of my life but a huge reality check. When you are overweight you don’t weigh yourself often to try and hide from the truth so my weight did come as a shock to me.

I quickly found myself eating healthier and losing a little bit of weight found me a love in hiking up mountains. It started with Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons and then quickly other peaks around the area. I also started 2017 on the 2nd January at the top of Snowdon for the 3rd time in as many months, when before even walking the stairs in work was a challenge (I do work on the 4th floor mind). I have now lost over 6st and weigh 22st 7lbs :-)

I am no longer embarrassed to talk about my weight as I am proud of what I am achieving. I am still a long way off my 10st target and the next few months will be tough going. I now walk on average 15 – 25 miles on a weekend and some of the views and experiences I've encountered are truly amazing.  I am currently training to complete the Fan Dance, a UK Special Forces selection exercise.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fan_dance_(exercise) to test my boundaries even further.

Soon, I will be turning 30 years of age and wanted to set a challenge for myself as well as trying to raise some money for a charity quite close to home. If I can inspire and motivate others also that is an added benefit. My daughter suffers from severe eczema and requires a lot of steroid creams and antibiotics to fight away infections regularly. We’ve had a lot of support from our dermatologist and support teams and would like to pay something back.

It is going to prove difficult trying to attend work every day and incorporate a Pen Y Fan climb so inevitably there will be some early
morning climbs and some late evenings. I will be well prepared and have the relevant equipment I also know the route like the back of my hand. I should add at this point the great service mountain rescue teams do completely voluntarily in all weathers and conditions.

if you would like to get involved or donate some money in person please drop me a message. I also hope to tag a long many of my friends and family as I can to share this experience with. #30for30
