Story

“Father Figure”. “Diamond Geezer”. “Hero”.

These are just some of the words used to describe and remember our friend and colleague Garry Marsland. The impact of Garry’s life and 26 years of work at Flair Rugs is celebrated in the kind words and fond memories shared by his colleagues. Starting in the warehouse, Garry worked hard to eventually take on the role of Warehouse Manager, his personality helping to drive our business forward and shape it into what it is today.

What he is most remembered for is his untiring ability to lend a hand or an ear to those in need, whether that be his grandchildren or his colleagues, a legacy continues to mould the way we work and support each other.

When Garry discovered that he was terminally ill Pauline his wife was with him every step of the way and with the support of the fantastic team at Macmillan, this invaluable support helped him to enjoy his precious last months with his family, friends, and colleagues.

To show the kind of man that Garry was, many of his
colleagues tell the story of his “jingling pockets” full of loose change that he would transfer throughout the year into a large sock, and eventually
donated at the church fair.

Sadly, Garry lost his battle in November 2018.

To commemorate his life, his legacy and charitable nature, four of his colleagues and friends (Dinesh, Neel, Ram and Shekhar) will undertake the 2019 Rickshaw Challenge in India. All donations made to the Flair foundation, will be matched and donated to the MacMillan Cancer Support, where it will go towards helping other families just like Garry’s.

The Rickshaw Challenge

For seven days on the 6th April we will be
travelling throughout South India driving from Trivandrum (South India) then pass through Alappuzah, Kochi, Mangalore, Murudeshwara and end in Panaji Goa, all the while on a rickshaw. An adventure - just how Garry would like it - we
hope you can help us raise funds for this brilliant organisation and touch as many lives as possible.
