Story

I am attempting to run my first half marathon in one month’s time!

I am running in aid of Opening Doors London, and in memory of my friend Chris Ball.

Opening Doors is the largest UK charity providing activities, events, information and support services specifically for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, non-binary or gender fluid (LGBTQ+) people over 50.

They first connected me with Chris six years ago and I went to visit his home. Over those years we formed a good friendship, enjoying watching old films together and chatting about his past. He was funny, warm, sensitive and amusingly obsessed with Trevor Noah.

I will miss his company but am grateful for his friendship and the chance to know him in his final years.

There are many reasons why someone may end up isolated in old age but some very specific societal factors why that generation of LGBTQ+ people are even more likely to, and I continue to feel that mine owes them a debt of gratitude. I profoundly admire the work Opening Doors does and so any donations, big or small, would be gratefully received at the link.
