In memory of Gary Burke- My Dad

Manchester Marathon 2021 · 10 October 2021 ·
As most of you know earlier this year on January 30th I recieved the unexpected and heartbreaking news that my Dad had passed away suddenly in his home from a brain hemorrhage. We had no idea or tell tale signs this was to happen and it left us all devastated; Myself, my Brother Scott, my Grandparents (His Mum & Dad) aswell as his extended family and many friends.
One thing my Dad was known for was being a showman. He IDOLISED the band Queen, and most of all Freddy Mercury; He’d watched every interview, could sing you every song word for word and even went to watch one of their last performances with Freddy aswel as the newly reformed Queen band with Adam Lambert.
My Dad has 2 sons- Myself and my Brother Scott, both gay men as it happens which never once bothered my Dad, he was always so full of love and pride! Some familys sadly aren’t always so lucky to have this love from their parents and I feel blessed to have had him as my Dad. I truly believe that having Freddy as an Idol helped my dad become the open minded, loving proud man he was, accepting me and my brother; flamboyances and all, just like Freddy.
In Honour of my Dad I will be running the Great Manchester Run 26th September 2021, and what better way than dressed as Freddy himself! The charity I have chosen is a charity in Freddy Mercurys name ‘The Mercury Phoenix Trust’ which is a charity that helps fight the battle against HIV & AIDS globally. As a member of the LGBTQ+ Community this sits close to my heart and knowing that I can do it in Freddy and my Dads name makes it all the more special.
All donations are hugely appreciated and wont go unoticed- That being said I would like to make a pledge to match the raised amount and donate myself *Up to the total of £400
Thankyou for taking the time to read and an even bigger thankyou if you are able to make any donation big or small or share my page
