Story

Gary 'Sockpan' May reaching out to you here for some charitable fundraising. I am one half of team "Can I finish? You bet JURASSICAN!!!" Back to take on Action Challenges Ultra for 2018. Dragging my friend and trekking buddy Ryan Bridge along for the ride. Both of us are still nursing injuries from last year - my big toe has lost all feeling!

Completing the Isle of Wight Ultra last year in 33 hours has left me hungry for another challenge. So this year I'm back, hopefully fitter than last year and aiming to smash the 24hr mark!

Due to injuries last year, progress was slow and agonising. This year I will be learning from mistakes such as footwear and food balancing. Trekking over 100km without stopping or sleeping is a tougher challenge than I and many others realised. When your body wants to shut down and sleep as you walk through towns full of people settling into bed for the night. Or when you can feel muscles tearing and your legs struggle to lift one foot in front of another. Thats where the mental aspect kicks in. You think of all the people who have donated and supported you. You think of all the good that the fundraising does for the selected charities. You have a group of fellow trekkers by your side and all you can think of is reaching that finish line and taking off your shoes!

***UPDATE***

I have now signed up for additional events:

The Jersey Island Walk - a gruelling 48 miles (78km) walk around Jersey Island. Having no idea about the route or toughness at the time...I am since learning this will be a tough challenge.

Yorkshire 3 Peaks - taking on a route of 25 miles (40km) around Yorkshires peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough....in under 12 hours.

I will be organising several fundraising activities to reach my target, however if you would be kind enough to donate any of your money to help the team at Alzheimer's Society, I can guarantee it will be put to good use supporting those who are suffering and their families. Please check out their website to see the great work they are doing. I have already learned a great deal and know I am supporting another worthwhile charity this year.

Pics will be up on FB & Insta after the event.

Thank you in advance for all the support I know I can rely on you giving me.
