Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Gary Rafferty......therefore G RAFFerty.....therefore GiRAFFe...get it!!.......hence the cycling giraffe!! Hilarious I here you say!
On September 13th a group of 10 cyclists who work for Kimberly Clark www.kimberly-clark.com will be starting a four day cycle ride from our manufacturing facility at Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria (in t’North West near to the lovely picturesque Lake District) to our sister facility at Northfleet in Kent (darn Sarf!!). A ride distance of 400 miles, with only 4 days to do it in….but not too bad as travelling north to south must surely be downhill all the way!!! I hope!!
I am not a professional cyclist by any means and the longest ride to date has been 107 miles (of which I have only ever ridden once a distance of greater than 100 miles!!......so, 400 in 4 consecutive days will be a challenge, to say the least).
So armed with my trusty 2012 Cube Peloton Race I have been training over the summer months (cycling and drinking Guinness….calories burnt off always need to be replenished…that’s my motto!!) and probably clocked up around 2000 miles…averaging around 50 miles per day (in two separate rides….one to work of about 30 mile…starting at 5 in the morning!! and 20 ish on the way home….well we do work quite hard…I have to say that as my Boss is doing it too!!
I have chosen as my charity St Mary's Hospice. They do excellent work in providing specialised supportive and palliative care for people with life limiting conditions throughout South Cumbria. Checkout their website for more details www.stmaryshospice.org.uk
Any donation you can give will be extremely appreciated - it's an ambitious target... for an ambitious challenge!! Check out our team page too to see who else has signed up! www.justgiving.com/teams/Barrow2Northfleet
