Story
Hello. Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running the London Marathon and the New York Marathon this year, in aid of CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Children) Sargent - a charity that I've supported since losing my dad to cancer back in 2005.
I've lost lots of other friends along the way too, and so the experience always stays with you. Alas, it seems all too commonplace these days.
So, to the extent that I can do anything to help, I've decided to raise money over the years in aid of CLIC Sargent, by running a few marathons and taking part in various challenges. And with the memory of my dad with me.
It seems to me that cancer must be one of the most distressing diseases for anyone, let alone a child, to suffer. The treatment, the uncertainty, the terror of the unknown when cancer takes hold must be hideous to bear, as stoical and accepting as many people can be.
The families of children affected by cancer and leukaemia also face an uncertain and emotional future. Principal treatment centres for children are often far away from home, and CLIC Sargent helps with the provision of local, specialist accomodation for those that need to travel to these centres (see the report 'The impact of travel on children and young people with cancer', here).
This is not the only area that CLIC Sargent is involved in, obviously, (and much more about the space they occupy is available on their really great and informative website, here). It does seem to me to be one of the most important though, in that it strives to make children and their families as comfortable as possible while they undergo what, by any measure, must be distressing and horrible treatment.
If you would like to sponsor me, then thank you very much in advance; your support means a lot to me, but, more importantly it will help CLIC Sargent carry out their vital work.
Cool runnings
Gary
