Yorkshire Cancer Research is an independent charity dedicated to funding world-leading research to pioneer early cancer diagnosis and discover new and better treatments. Each year we fund £10 million of world-leading research to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

Story

In January 2004 my beautiful wife, Helen was told she had 18 months to live, as she had a rare cancer called Myeloma.  Until then, like many others, I had never heard of this cancer, which attacks the plasma cells, found in the bone marrow and are responsible for protecting the body against viruses and infections.  Myeloma is more common than most types of Leukaemia.  However, there is a cure for leukaemia, there is not for Myeloma.

Two and a half years later, I am delighted to say that Helen is undergoing treatment and is enjoying every moment she has with myself and our wonderful daughter, Lily, who is now three and a half years old (that half a year is very important at her age!)

This year I decided to run the New York Marathon, on Sunday 5th November, which was a  huge challenge for me, as running isn’t one of my hobbies!

I would like to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who has already supported me in my fundraising quest  for Yorkshire Cancer Research.  Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of my supporters to date, I have managed to reach my  target of £100,000 and more.  So thank you so much, your generosity is greatly appreciated.

My  target was to raise £100,000.  This is my one chance to make a difference, as I won't be running any marathons again after this one!  Going from a running novice in August to a marathon runner  12 weeks later was a huge challenge, but I assure you, your support was what kept me going around the gruelling 26.2mile course!

Yorkshire Cancer Research is the UK ’s largest regional medical research charity, which funds key research into the cause and cure of cancer.  The charity funds internationally recognised researchers at five centres of research excellence at universities and teaching hospitals across Yorkshire .

Research is expensive.  Yorkshire Cancer Research only funds research of the highest quality, as reviewed by cancer experts around the world.  The charity relies almost entirely on donations, to enable them to continue to fund at this high level.  Currently, they are only able to fund half of the top-rated projects that apply for funding.  They’d like to fund them all.

Please dig deep and join the fight against this awful disease.  With your help we really can make a difference.

Thank you for you support
