Virtual Walk and Talk · 18 May 2020

Gateshead Foodbank is a local charity set up to offer emergency food for Gateshead people in crisis. We are part of the Trussel Trust’s network of foodbanks. We work together with frontline Care Professionals to distribute food via a specialist distribution centre in central Gateshead.

Story

Last year Gateshead College’s mental health champions launched the Ultimate Walk & Talk, a 20-mile or 8-mile challenge walking to each of the college’s campuses. It was a huge success with more than 50 members of staff taking part and completing an incredible 1,632,500 steps.

Due to the success of last year’s walks, the Ultimate Walk & Talk is returning in 2020 but, because of Covid-19, we are now making it virtual.

Our new challenge is to walk the same distance during Mental Health Awareness Week between Monday 18th May and Friday 22nd May. Everyone taking part will sign-up to either an 8 or 20-mile challenge. This year’s theme is kindness and we are going to be walking to feed families in need, with donations going to Gateshead Foodbank.

This money will be used by the Foodbank to feed local people in crisis – so that no one in our community has to go hungry.
