Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have left it late, but I am hoping to raise at least £500 for Motor Neurone Disease by running the 2013 Amsterdam marathon.
Running a marathon, and more to the point, training for a marathon, is quite a challenge, but there can be no doubt that it is nothing compared to the challenge facing those people affected by MND.
If you don't know, MND is caused when certain cells within the brain and spinal chord stop working, affecting a persons ability to control everyday muscular activities such as gripping, walking, speaking, swallowing and even breathing. Ultimately, the condition progresses to the point theses tasks becone impossible.
Unfortunately, I have seen first hand the severity of the disease, and have been stunned at just how quickly a fit and healthy person can deteriorate to the point of needing constant care. I have also seen first hand the stress and anguish this disease can force a persons loved ones to endure.
There is currently no known cause and. worse still there is no known cure.
The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association is the only national organisation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland dedicated to the support of people with MND and those who care for them. Their mission is to fund and promote research to bring about an end to MND, and until then do all that they can to enable everyone with MND to receive the best care, achieve the highest quality of life possible, and die with dignity whilst supporting the families and carers of people with MND.
