Story
Thank you so much for visiting my Just Giving page. I am appealing to you all to offer your support, as I embark on my biggest challenge to date.
This year I am honoured to have been selected to represent Diabetes Research and Wellness to run the 2021London Marathon on their behalf. This is a cause that I hold dearly, due to witnessing the effect that Type 1 diabetes has had on my family.
My sister-in-law and mother-in-law both suffered from Type 1 diabetes. They were both diagnosed at an early age, and learnt to adjust their life styles to adapt. The lack of resources in the early days of diabetes research meant that there was little development of solutions to their issues.
My sister-in-law took part in a number of trials and studies to assist with medical advances in this field. Unfortunately she passed away with complications as a result of the issues she suffered throughout her life relating to diabetes.
This event is not only a huge personal challenge, but it is also a means of giving back to the diabetic community for the support my sister in law received during her lifetime.
At the grand old age of 62 this will probably be the last time I will consider taking part in a race of this distance, I am so happy that I get to do it on behalf of such a fantastic organisation.
Every penny that you can afford to give will help support the diabetic community, which is crucial in ending the suffering of tens of thousands of people across the UK.
Thank you to everyone who has already offered their kind words and support, and thank you in advance to anyone who supports me on the journey towards my target. This cause is worth every pulled muscle, twisted ankle and blister that I will inevitably get over the next 6 months of training.
