Story

I am so excited to be taking part in a real adventure in October this year!

We will be running three incredible mountain and trail runs alongside our team leader Dame Kelly and local Malawian runners acting as guides and support crew, including Commonwealth Games Runner’s and Students from Lakeside School and a Malawi community running team and hope to meet some of the amazing people working with Open Arms on our “ days off😂” too.

We aim to raise £10,000 to support the work of Open Arms in Malawi and their commitment to preventing malnutrition in children. Open Arms do amazing work in and with local communities supporting some of the 835,000 Malawians currently caring for an orphaned child. Malnutrition causes 23% of child deaths and £10,000 will provide food for 550 Open Arms children over 12 months.

Check out the website www.orbis-challenge.com for more detail and info on the running challenge and adventure we are undertaking.

The challenge is run by the amazing Kate and Dom at Orbis Expeditions and associates, they run a sustainable travel company that makes a positive impact on the communities they work with in Malawi and they employ Malawian staff in Malawi, training and developing local people.

Today, 1,890 babies will be born in Malawi. 320 will become orphans. 87 will die before their first birthday from malnutrition or illness. We’re the only organisation in southern Malawi able to feed, house and care for these babies and support their return to their communities.
