Who are Team Gears and Beers?
They originally met at the “Multiple Guinness World Record Conference” back in 2018 in Guatemala. As fate would have it, they were put on the same table and as the conversation flowed, they discovered they had a few shared passions; the mating call of the ferret; Beer; getting sweaty for extended periods of time; fundraising for Leeds Cares.
By the stroke of midnight, the Team had been formed and would consist of Dylan Hall (Joint Captain), Paul Connolly (Joint Captain), Matt Atkinson, Jade Jones-Hall, Oliver Gibson, Martin Stoney, Liam Fox, John-Paul Bednarek, Chris Dickinson and Sam Leonard. (Individual member Bio’s can be found below in the updates).
Their mission?
To tackle some major Endurance challenges and to raise over £10,000 for Leeds Cares.
What events will we be tackling?
The full team of 10 will come together in September to ride the 2019 UCI Road World Championships Sportive on the 22nd September; a challenging 145km ride which will take in some of the iconic climbs in the Yorkshire Dales!
As part of the build-up to the UCI Cycling festivities, Dylan and Martin will Cycle from Innsbruck in Austria, the venue of the UCI World Championships in 2018, to the venue for the 2019 Championships in Leeds; covering 1000km and 5 countries in 8 days!
Aside from raising money for Leeds Cares, a big part of the project is to hopefully inspire others to take on their own challenges and get involved as supporters of the Team. We will be tackling a range of different events & distances in the build-up to the UCI rides, so be sure like our Facebook page to keep updated on what we are up to and how you can get involved.
