Story
Our much loved Dad Ged passed away on 28th September 2022. He was 64 years old. He left behind his devoted wife, children and grandchildren all of whom love and miss him very much.
In lieu of flowers we would kindly ask for donations to be made to the Royal Free Hospital Amyloidosis Research Centre.
3 years ago, Dad was diagnosed with Amyloidosis.
Our Dad had many loves which brought him so much happiness.
Family meant the world to him. As a husband, he was an example of devotion. We grew up in awe seeing the love between him and mum. He was an ever present and hands on Dad, always on hand to help us out or entertain us with his humour and stories. We are so grateful for the value he placed in family and the role model he gave us for kindness and fun. As a Grandad, he surpassed himself. He was a source of endless joy and fun. He supplied the sweets, made bins into monsters, fixed every broken toy and passed on his love of all things Man United to the next generation.
He was an incredibly active and dedicated footballer who was never happier than on the pitch. Not only did he love the game but he loved sharing it with the many friends he made and the younger footballers he coached.
We are all most proud of his kindness. He would do anything for anyone. To his core he was generous and giving, never with the expectation of anything in return.
Sadly, his illness meant little by little he lost his ability to do all these things that he loved. His condition damaged his heart which left him tired - a word we would never associate with him. He powered through for as long as he could, his catch phrase being "I'm Good" and we appreciate all our memories of him from his last few years.
He was truly a one of a kind individual who has shaped ours and so many lives. In his memory, we would like to raise money to fund more valuable research into the illness which sadly took his life.
The National Amyloidosis Centre (NAC) is at the forefront of medical research into this condition. They provide diagnostic and management advisory services for all patients with amyloidosis across the country. Your donations will help fund the NAC in making important progress in the diagnosis and treatment of amyloidosis.
Dad was receiving support and treatment from the centre right up until his passing. The doctors forecast through their work, that this life-ending hereditary condition will one day be treatable and possibly curable.
We hope that in supporting this cause, we can save other families the heartbreak we have felt since losing our Dad.
Thank you for your support
