Story
Grandad lived with type 1 diabetes for 62 years. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1952 when a nurse staying with our family noticed the symptoms, including tremendous thirst and weight loss. The doctor sent him to the Royal Hospital in Portsmouth and he stayed in for eight weeks. In his lifetime, he have had some 40,000-plus insulin injections, but type 1 diabetes did not stop him from doing anything.
He was always taking part in the annual Walk to Cure Diabetes with a group of friends from the Portsmouth area. He was a big supporter of Portsmouth Football Club and would wear the club strip to the Walk in Southampton - because of the rivalry between the Portsmouth and Southampton clubs and it would lead to some friendly banter which grandad would find funny. He was always talking to us about his group of friends and loved to raise money and make people more aware of diabetes so we have set this page up to keep his memories of what was so close to his heart and our way of saying thank you to all at jdrf for making him so happy. We love you loads grandad and you will always be in our hearts untill we meet again R.I.P Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
