Story
Hi everyone,
Firstly, Id like to thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
On the 8th of September I will be doing a Tough Mudder and on the 20th of September I will be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge in order to raise money for a small charity, Lipoedema UK.
Sadly, at age 61 my Nana Caroline passed away on the 29th of December 2018. She suffered greatly from a condition she was born with called Lipoedema. The condition caused her to become bed bound for the last 7 years of her life, and house bound long before this. Managing this condition was almost impossible and I feel it could have been avoided if she had been diagnosed as a child and if there was more awareness on how to manage the condition.
Lipoedema is a chronic, stigmatized and incurable condition where there is an abnormal build-up of fat cells in the legs, thighs and buttocks (and sometimes in the arms). It is hereditary and predominantly effects women. The disease was first recognized in the 1940's but to this day health professionals are not taught about it. Due to this, people are often never diagnosed, or are diagnosed far too late. Once the condition progresses, other illnesses are triggered and surgeries become complex and are no longer an option.
The challenges have been completely self-funded, so every penny raised will be going directly to this amazing charity. Donating to this cause or even just sharing this page to spread some awareness would mean the world to me. Below are links to an NHS page for Lipoedema and the challenges I will be taking on.
