For those that know me well, will know that I have done 2 x 5k runs now for Cancer Research. Like many of us cancer has effected a number of my family members, some who have survived and some whom we have sadly lost. After successfully raising money for cancer research with your support I have now decided to run for another organisation called Speakeasy. This is a small charity to help people with Aphasia a communication difficulty which has effected my grandpa after his severe stroke in 2002. My grandpa lost the ability to walk and his speech was so badly effected that he could not communicate at all which made it extremely difficult and frustrating for him and my family, but more importantly my nan who is his full time carer. A couple of years later, my grandpa with the help of Speakeasy can communicate with us, even put sentences together. He is still wheelchair bound but now he can talk to us and it goes without saying how important this is to him and us.
Speakeasy do get some money from Bury NHS Primary Care Trust, the rest of the money comes from fund raising by workers, volunteers and the local community. They need as much support as possible to continue and to help more people effected like my grandpa and their families.
I have decided to go the extra mile this year and do the Manchester 10k run. I have been training hard as I would like to do this run in a reasonable time. Running any distance is a real killer for me as I am not a natural runner but I am really trying hard.
I know this is a tough time for everyone right now so anything at all would be greatly appreciated no matter how small. Please spare a few minutes to sponser me and wish me luck.
Thank you
Gemma
