Genesis Leeds Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge

We completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks under 12 hours and it was a really great challenge. So far we've raised over £1500 which is a fantastic achievement and it really means alot to Genesis that people have supported us during this event. Walking the three peaks for us as a team of Genesis staff, volunteers and supporters, the majority of whom are not seasoned ramblers, is a reminder to us of the challenges many of our service user face in their lives. From dealing with stigma and judgemental attitudes, drug and alcohol problems and homelessness for some, targeted violence and abuse, our service users experience a range of issues. We see their resilience dealing with these issues and we are inspired to provide person centred support and advocacy. Funding is too often a barrier to us to develop new initiatives and maintaining services, knowing we will be raising money to continue our work and that our sponsors have shown their support for us spurs us on.

Walking the three peaks also reflects our ethos that difficult challenges can be overcome, every mountain can be climbed,we can make a difference by working with and empowering service users to improve safety, health, life chances and social inclusion even in challenging circumstances. 

On the day we shall be walking with our supporters from Gratterpalm. Genesis is the charity of the year for Leeds based creative agency; Gratterpalm and we're delighted to be walking with them on the day. 

Funding is too often a barrier to us to develop new initiatives and maintaining services, knowing we will be raising money to continue our work and that our sponsors have shown their support for us spurs us on.  The 3 Peaks challenge is an approximately 24 miles trek taking in the peaks of Penyghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m) in one day.
