Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund is the only national charity dedicated solely to beating pancreatic cancer through research. Survival rates are low, so new research is vital. In the past, this cancer received little attention. With your help, we can change this so more people beat pancreatic cancer.

Story

UPDATE - Hello everyone - I planned to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to fulfil a life's ambition, in February/March 2007. I fully funded the flights and Trekking trip myself but wanted to raise some money to make it additionally worthwhile.

As I lost my Mum to cancer of the pancreas 10 years ago, I wanted to help raise some money, so I chose this charity, and they will also provide some funds for cancer equipment for the "Magic Laser appeal" at the local Derby City hospital, particularly as she was well looked after there in her last days.

On the 7th March 2007 at 07:00 hours (04:00 GMT) my guide Joseph turned to me and said "Well done BABU (Swahili for Grandfather - my new name all week) - you are on the top of Kilimanjaro".

Therefore, I got to live and fulfil my dream - which is something not many people get to do.

My colleague Richard and I made it together to Stella Point (5795m) but as we were so exhausted our guide would not let us go onto the peak at Uhuru (5985m) - which was good enough for me, I can live without the other 190m - I was at the top of the crater rim.

The fund-raising target of £2000 for my 2 Charities - Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund and the Magic Laser Appeal - thanks to all your generosity has exceeded £3100 (including UK taxpayers Gift Aid allowance).

For that, and the memory of my mother, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Many thanks for your support.

Geoff
