I and three of my friends are supporting the DATUM Foundation by undertaking a personal challenge to cycle from Calais to Cannes and to raise money for this worthy charity.We will be setting off from Calais on 24th September and aiming to arrive in Cannes two weeks later, covering  about 850 miles in all and averaging 60 miles a day, terrain and weather permitting.

DATUM's aim is to help poor and vulnerable children in the poorest regions of the world, targeting those in very greatest need. The trip will be funded by me and my friends, so every penny raised will go directly to DATUM’s projects which include building and improving shelters, schools, and health facilities by providing clean water and toilets. 

My target is £6,000 which will build a new well, turn a basic earth floored shed into a proper school building, provide classroom furniture and build toilets in one village in a remote part of Africa or Asia.  This money goes a very long way and  will vastly reduce the child mortality rate and educate children to create a sustainable future for themselves and their dependents. We've all seen the disasters that are happening in Africa today - this is a chance to start tackling the problem at source!

We have very strict controls to ensure all the money raised goes straight to the project and none is wasted or lost in the process.
