George's Chase the Sun

Chase the Sun · 20 June 2021
Hi I'm George and my youngest daughter Immy was diagnosed with a
rare heart condition at the age of 3. Unfortunately, the situation deteriorated and in July 2020 at the height of the pandemic, she underwent open heart surgery at Birmingham Children's
Hospital.
Seeing my little girl lying in intensive care, being completely helpless as a parent was one of the toughest moments I've experienced.
But from start to finish everything at BCH was incredible, from Imogen’s treatment through to her recovery. I’m happy to say she has made a full recovery, the service was first class and although it was one of the most traumatic experiences, the people at BCH were incredible and made it a lot easier.
To show my appreciation, gratitude, and thankfulness I felt the least I could do to repay the fantastic service Imogen received is to undertake some fund raising for BCH.
I've had a challenge in mind for a little while and decided to
bite the bullet and do it.
The challenge involves racing the sun across England on my bike
from the moment it rises on the East Coast and aiming to arrive on the West Coast before it sets on Sunday 20th June 2021.
The route will start off from the shores of The Wash, the
nearest landmark is Shep Whites Car Park, where the sun will rise at 4:47am. Which gives me 16 hours, 38 minutes and 20 seconds to be exact to make it to Severn Beach under the River Severn Crossing before it sets into the Severn Estuary at 21.21pm.
The route is approximately 190miles and starts out pretty flat
as I set out across the fens to Stamford before onto Market Harborough and Leamington (home) at 100miles. The elevation gets pretty tough from 100 miles on as the route then winds its way across the Cotswolds before tackling some pretty tough climbs, with over 130+ miles in the legs at this point it’s going to be difficult.
The route flattens out after descending the Cotswolds after
Stroud before completing onward to Severn Beach.
I'm not doing it as part of a sportif just simply organised by
myself in aid of raising as much money for this fantastic organisation as possible.
It' going to be tough but I know with the love and support of
friends and family I'll be able to do it for the amazing people who helped my
little girl.
If you could give a little it would really mean a lot.
All the best, George x
