We both have strong links with Argyll and have chosen to raise funds for The Argyll Piping Trust which since 1996 through an agreement with Argyll and Bute Council provides 50% of the funds required to teach the Pipes to children in Argyll Primary Schools. Each year through this scheme around 130 children across 17 different Primary Schools receive tuition free of charge. However, as a result of difficulties in local government funding, the Council’s budget for music tuition is under review and charitable funds provided through the Argyll Piping Trust are becoming more important than ever to ensure that this highly successful scheme can continue.
The six munros we are climbing are:
Ben Lui 3,707ft
Ben Cruachan 3,694ft
Beinn a’ Chochuill 3,215ft
Stob Diamh 3,274ft
Beinn Eunaich 3,245ft
Beinn a’Chleibh 3,005ft
Walking just under 40km in three days, we will play Munros Makyth Man
a tune we composed for this challenge, at the top of each Munro (the name is a play on the Winchester College motto, "Manners Makyth Man"). During the event we will make a short film of the challenge which we will then upload onto online social networks in order to raise further awareness of our campaign.
£200 will fund piping lessons for 1 child for a whole year. £600 will fund lessons for 1 child for 3 years. In 3 years a committed child can master the basics of piping and lay the foundations for a lifetime of music making. So if we can raise £12,000 this will fund piping lessons for 20 children for 3 years. This is a challenging total but one with the potential to make a huge difference.
You can hear us play Munros Makyth Man below in the gallery.
