UPDATE!

I know I have done this ride before, and you probably think “It’s just another ride” or “I have already sponsored him for this, but It wasn’t easy.

It was my brother Steve that pushed me around without a doubt. There were several times when I thought I couldn’t push on any more. I thought about Steve and his battle with cancer. I told myself to stop it and keep pushing on. I remember mile 86 the most. I had cramp in my left leg. I couldn’t push through it. I stopped, took on lots of electrolyte drink, rubbed and stretched it. I managed to get going and pushed on my right leg. Ouch! I got cramp there too. I stopped again, repeated the above. I was sat there, just under 14 miles from the finish thinking I was not going to finish.

Steve had Oesophageal Cancer. It was very painful, especially towards the end. He couldn’t eat, couldn’t drink and basically wasted away. I was thinking about this whilst sat moaning about how I might not complete this ride. I was thinking about the pain he went through. I told myself to get back on the bike and ride as hard as possible as in the end, I’ll be fine tomorrow!

Curing cancer is too late for Steve, but they are making great progress and finding new medicines to increase cancer survival rates. You can be part of this.
