Story

Since the lockdown calls to Childline have increased by 300%. At the same time, many of the fundraising events that Childline rely on for funding have been cancelled. The NSPCC (who run Childline) say this is the greatest challenge they have faced in the history of the charity.

George really wanted to do something to help people in need during coronavirus. We talked about how coronavirus has changed the lives of different people and how life is much harder now for so many. We looked at the different charities helping people and George decided he wanted to raise money for Childline, so he could help children who were suffering more because of the lockdown.

George has pledged to run 3 km every day for two weeks - the equivalent of a marathon - in support of Childline and all the children who are not safe at home during lockdown.

Childline is an amazing charity run by the NSPCC that offers free and confidental support and counselling to children up to age 19 - either by phone or online. Most of the calls they receive are from vulnerable children who often have no one else to turn to.

Childline also have lots of great materials online to help all children manage their worries and get support with a range of issues children and young people face like bullying, friendships, exam pressure and knife crime.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. ChildLine is the UK's free and confidential, 24 hour helpline for children in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise, support and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Children call ChildLine about a wide range of problems, but the most common problems are abuse (both sexual and physical), bullying, serious family tensions, worries about friends' welfare and teenage pregnancy. Children and young people can call ChildLine about anything – no problem is too big or too small. ChildLine is a service provided by the NSPCC
