The Story: told by Lucien Campbell-Taylor
On January 17th my mum, Judith, passed away from pancreatic cancer, just over six months after diagnosis. The diagnosis was terminal from the start, as pancreatic cancer has very few symptoms, it's usually discovered at stage 4, ultimately when it's too late.
Mum stubbornly refused to accept this diagnosis, and did all she could to beat it. Even right towards the end, she did all she could to remain active and stay as fit as she was able with an incredible positive minded.
The fact she survived for over six months says a great deal about her, and her refusal to be beaten by cancer, for as long as she could.
This six month period was absolutely the worst period of my life, and I cannot imagine how much worse it was for my dad, Barry.
DOROTHY HOUSE
Dorothy House provided twice daily carers and nurses, arranged doctor visits, and completed all the awfully complicated admin that is involved.
They ultimately took all complications away from us, leaving us to make the most of our precious final months/weeks/days with Judith.
Without what they did I cannot fathom how awful it would have been for my mum, and my dad who was her chief carer.
Even now they are in regular contact with my dad, checking up on his wellbeing and health.
MY PLAN
I am going to walk The Ridgeway (90 miles) across five days straight, starting on the one year anniversary, January 17th 2021.
It will be a challenge, especially in January. It will entail roughly 8 hours of walking each day. Something which I've never done before.
I am very lucky to have the support of some good friends who are joining me on the route, George and Ben. (I will be adding them to this page once I figure out how) I'm also asking other friends to join at other points along the way. Dad will also be joining for a yet to be decided distance, knee dependant!
I will add more detail as time goes on, but I really would appreciate any donations. Dorothy House rely on donations to survive and carry on the amazing support they provide.
