The RFL Benevolent Fund provides relief for people who have been injured whilst playing or training for rugby football league.

Story

Thanks so much for popping by my fundraising page.

I'll be making my Great North Run debut this year as part of the BBC Radio 5Live team and am hoping to make as much money as possible for the RFL Benevolent Fund which supports those seriously injured while playing the great but brutal game of rugby league.

Last October Wakefield's loveable giant Adam Watene collapsed and died after a weights session. He was one of the nicest blokes you could meet. Months later the club's young forward Leon Walker died on the pitch. The RFL Fund supported the grieving families in the aftermath, with such horrible tasks as organising and paying for the repatriation of the bodies...which for Adam, was back to New Zealand.

This is just a small part of the work the Fund does, and I'd be really touched if you could throw a few pennies my way for this run. I've only run one half marathon before. That was last year in the monsoons of London. It was badly scheduled as it was the day after the Super League Grand Final so I was feeling a little worse for wear, but got round nonetheless. I promise to prepare properly this time.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The RFL Benevolent Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thanks so much,

georgeyboy
