Story

Hello there, thanks for stopping by and reading this, as it's not that easy to write.

This is not the first challenge I've undertaken for Steve Prescott. But it's the biggest. And it's the first one that I've not been able to talk about with him.

Steve Prescott MBE: exceptional rugby league player, astonishing fundraiser, the perfect family man, and loyal friend.

Steve died on November 9th 2013, seven years after being told he had months to live. Many people now know his story, and I want to help ensure his legacy lives on. That extra seven years saw Steve raise £500,000 for the charities represented by his Foundation. It also gave his two wonderful young boys the opportunity to see the qualities that are truly important in life.

He'll be massively missed, but never, ever forgotten.

So this challenge - The Steve Prescott 100 - is about Steve's legacy, and trying to help the Foundation continue to raise funds.

The goal is to run 100 race miles in 2014, centred around a first ever crack at the London Marathon. It actually adds up to 110m at the moment! The furthest I've ever run is a half marathon.

My race diary is:

March 2: Bath Half Marathon (13.1)            DONE!        1hour 47                Cold and wet

March 9: St Helens 10k (6.2)         DONE!                       48mins.                     Hot and hilly

April 13: London Marathon (26.2)     DONE!            4hours13.                          Sore and sunburned

May 11: Leeds Half Marathon (13.1) DONE!          1hour 49.               Painful and underprepared

May 18: Manchester 10k (6.2)        DONE!              49mins.                Hellish heatwave

July 20: Leeds 10k (6.2)       DONE!                           52mins.   Frustratingly unfit

Sept 7: Great North Run (13.1)           DONE!      1hour50                   Everything is broken

Oct 12: Yorkshire Marathon (26.2)          DONE!                   4h30                        Hobbled home hurting

About the charity

The Steve Prescott Foundation was set up by a totally inspirational man Steve Prescott MBE. In 2006 he was diagnosed with Pseudomyxoma Peritonei a terminal cancer & sought out to raise funds for The Christie Hospital and the Rugby League Benevolent Fund.
