Story
2024 - here we go again!! I am taking on this challenge again in memory or Craig in the build up to the anniversary of his passing. Its hard to believe that on the 20th Jan 2024 it will be 15 years since he died. Craig is still such a huge part of my life, and is always in my thoughts and always missed.
My own cancer journey continues, you're never really free of the disease as you live with fear of reoccurrence and I've had a few hiccups along the way. The cancer community is incredible, but sadly we have lost some amazing people this year, which is hard, but we have also heard of advancements in treatment options and new trials, many that have been pioneered through the Royal Marsden.
The work they do is vital to bring new options to patients, ro extend life and to give hope....
So.please pop the cost of a pint, a coffee, a slice of cake to remember Craig and to support the future of cancer treatment x
I'm back again raising funds for the brilliant Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. This is a continuous page including donations from last year which reached £675. I would love to get this page to £1000 by the end of January 2023. I also have a Facebook fundraising page and hope to reach £250 on there.
I will be running 2 miles a day for 20 days starting in 1st January and running up until the anniversary of Craig's death on the 20th January.
In the last year I have had my own cancer diagnosis, and I have met some amazing women who are living with secondary breast cancer. Many treatment options are available thanks to the work of RMCC not just for breast cancer but many cancers. You don't have to be a patient there to benefit from their work as the fundamentals of their research provides options for others.
Craig was diagnosed with GIST a rare form of cancer that had very few options for treatment. Luckily we managed to get to see Prof Judson at RMH who gave us some hope with an unlicensed drug called Glivec which gave Craig 6 further years. When that treatment failed we fought to get access of Sunitinib for Craig and along with the team at RMH this was successful and gave us a further 6 months. Craig sadly died on 20th Jan 2009 age 39, so the first 39 miles will represent a year of his life and the 40th mile to remember him.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. We ensure our nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, we will never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
