Midnight Sun Run · 16 June 2018
On the 16th of June this year, Zoe Robbins and I will be taking part in the Midnight Sun half marathon in Tromsø, Norway. All donations that we receive will be given to Safeline, a charity based in the UK, which aims to help both adults and young people who have been victims of sexual abuse and rape. The charity works both to provide education in schools to prevent incidences of sexual abuse, and to provide support to victims, trying to help them work through such a traumatic experience.
Here is a bit of background to why we have chosen this charity. Incidences of sexual abuse in the UK are shockingly common, for example 1 in 4 women are survivors of sexual abuse or rape. This is an issue that we believe is rarely spoken about, despite it’s widespread impacts. Therefore we hope that to take part in this event may go a little way towards raising awareness for the many people who have to deal with the effects of sexual abuse.
Any donations that are received could have a hugely positive impact for the charity, who use donations for services such as counselling and art therapy sessions. We would therefore be massively grateful for anything that you could donate!
We will try to post regular updates as we unsporty duo attempt to get fit enough to run 13 miles. Please do have a look at the SafeLine website for more details of their work.
Big love, Georgia and Zoe xx
