This year I will be running The Great North Run and raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation, whose vision is 'to see a world free from meningitis and septicaemia'. 

Meningitis can cause serious illness very quickly, which my family and I saw after sadly losing my Grandad to the disease, who at the time was on holiday and had previously been very fit and well. 

Unfortunately this was not the first time we suffered loss in the family from meningitis. My Grandad and Grandma's twin boys, Mark and Andrew, also passed away from meningitis when they were only weeks old. 

I'm so pleased to be running to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation and I'm warmly welcoming any donations to help the organisation carry out their vision and avoid any further senseless losses for families. 

And just to add to keep myself accountable.. I’ve set myself the (probably unrealistic) goal of running the half marathon in sub 2 hours !!
