Fundraising for International Service
Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page :) I'm excited to announce that I will be heading to Burkina Faso, West Africa, for 10 weeks at the start of April! I have been selected to volunteer with International Service on an International Citizen Service placement.
International Service empowers women, people with disabilities and children and young people to access their rights in developing countries. I will be helping to run community projects which promote inclusion and work towards a fairer world where everyone can thrive. I am extremely passionate about rights for marginalised people, and am honoured that I will be part of something where diversity and equality are championed. The length of the placement will ensure that a real, lasting difference is made. After seeing the pure joy on the faces of the kids in Uganda, once the playground I helped build last summer with East African Playgrounds was officially opened, I've become inspired to make a positive difference through volunteering once again.
ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help to fight poverty. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active, global citizens who are passionate about long term community development. Their projects strengthen the skills and knowledge of local organisations, increasing the impact of their work and their ability to advocate for change.
The first part of my placement is a challenge to raise £800 towards the work of International Service and their ICS partners. The money raised will go towards enabling the overall costs of ICS, ensuring they can continue sending youth volunteers to the developing world to make a lasting difference in underprivileged communities.
I have only until mid March to meet my full fundraising total, so any contributions made will be appreciated more than I can put into words! I'll also be doing some fundraising events/challenges, which I'll keep a record of on this page. Every donation will count towards making an enormous difference to the lives of people who are at an unfair disadvantage. This is a fantastic cause and I still can't believe I will be able to get involved.
