Story
Hi!
Thanks so much for taking a look at my JustGiving page. I'll try to keep this short, but basically...
I am not a runner. Well, I would've said that until a few years ago. I am not naturally athletic, I'm very accident prone and my coordination is questionable. However, like a lot of people, I came to enjoy recreational running and decided to give the Bath Half a go on behalf of the Royal United Hospital in Bath (RUH). So, as someone who's 'not a runner' they must be pretty special for me to attempt the Bath Half for them (they are, they really are) and here's why:
A few years ago, I was diagnosed with the incurable, but manageable gynaecological condition, Endometriosis. It's essentially where tissue that is similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow elsewhere, which causes a multitude of issues. I'm trying to keep this short, so, I was referred to the care of the fantastic Gynaecology team at the RUH who have helped me treat and manage this condition. I have been an in-patient with them twice due to surgical procedures (once during a snowstorm!) and even then, the care they provided to me was exceptional. Because of them, I have been able to lead a relatively pain free life since my last surgery and I cannot thank them enough. With this in mind, I thought that raising money for them was just one of the ways I could give back.
Training for the Bath Half has been much tougher than I imagined, with a persistent ankle injury to contend with and a diagnosis of a genetic neurological condition earlier this year to manage (explains some of the clumsiness!), you could say the odds are against me.
However, if you know me, you'll know I'm a bit stubborn and that I never give up. Because of this, I'm going to give the Bath Half a good go (if that means shuffling over the finish line, so be it) and I would be so humbled if you could spare any sort of donation to help me raise money for a fantastic local hospital.
I am specifically requesting that donations be sent to the Gynaecology Department at the RUH, as it's an area that is often underfunded, but they do such a brilliant job despite that. I would be so grateful for any and all donations received and thank you also for reading about why I'm doing this :)
