Story

My father, John Horgan, and I will be competing in the 2022 Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race on Easter weekend. It is a strenuous course of 125 miles and 77 portages which we aim to complete in 24 hours with non stop paddling. This will be a test on both our physical and mental capabilities.

We will be paddling all day and night, so will need support crews to keep us fed, hydrated and more importantly motivated. Rob McKay, Graham Plaister and Finn Horgan are already committed with more crew members to be confirmed. These teams will be with us all the way through training and will follow us on the road and riverbank throughout the big day, ensuring our safety all the way to the finish line.

We will be raising money for the charity Mind, who provide active support to empower anyone experiencing mental health problems. They also actively campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We chose this charity in memory of my mother's brother Ken and my paternal grandfather Johnny who battled with mental health throughout their whole lives.

All donations will be greatly appreciated for this important charity. There will also be space on the boat for corporate logos should any businesses wish to sponsor! This is for an amazing cause and your support will help motivate us throughout the race.

Anyone is more than welcome to join us during our training sessions or simply waving at us during the big day. In fact we would love you to meet us along the way! Seeing friendly faces and people cheering us on will certainly boost our morale as we paddle to the finish line.

Thank you so much in advance, we will see you on race day!
