The important reason why I am doing this...

As some of you know, my brother, Ben, attends Shapwick school near street. A school especially for children with learning difficulties. He is only able to attend this school through the immense help that SOSSEN gave us.

When Ben was in a main stream school, he struggled in class and was increasingly falling behind his peers. The help he needed was not there, the teachers simply did not understand his needs and how to support a Dyspraxic student.

After going to an open day at Shapwick our eyes were opened to the support he potentially could have, and so the battle with the local Authority began.

I remember Mum and Dad writing emails to various people untill very late every evening, in trying to get the Authorities to see sense and allow Ben to attend Shapwick.

This is where SOSSEN came in. They guided my parents down the right path, on who to contact and how to deal with them, they even attended meetings with them to help the campaign.

A year later the Authorities had to give in as it was obvious that with the help of SOSSEN behind us they were never going to win.

Now, after 3 years at Shapwick and in his final year of GCSE's I cannot describe the change in Ben. He has transformed into an educated young man. He is more confident and has more pride than I have ever seen him have. He is always coming home with a smile on his face telling us how well he has done.

It brings tears to my eyes writing this, I am so proud of him and how far he has come. It is only with the help and guidence that SOSSEN gave us, as we would have never achieved it on our own.

So please please give all you can spare for a charity that can change childrens lives.
