Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Our youngest son Thomas became an amputee on 7th June 2019 when he was just 10 years old. Since then, we have been supported by LimbPower. LimbPower was launched in November 2009 to engage amputees and individuals with limb impairments in physical activity, sport, and the arts to improve quality of life, aid lifelong rehabilitation, and reach their potential.
Three months after Thomas’ amputation, Thomas joined the charity for an outdoor activity weekend in Hereford – it was the perfect environment, surrounded by other children with similar stories, to rebuild his confidence. He participated in climbing, paddle-boarding, canoeing, and exercise sessions. Over the months that have followed, he has continued to attend numerous events (physically and virtually!) and made a lot of friends.
Through our involvement with the charity, we have witnessed the support provided by LimbPower, to children and adults with limb loss or limb impairment. They help by putting each amputee or limb impaired person in touch with the right sport of leisure activity for their needs and ability. They also provide expert knowledge and help to the limb impaired, families, physiotherapists, prosthetists, orthotists, occupational therapists, case managers, lawyers, support workers, coaches and other sport providers on how to engage and adapt sport for the limb impaired.
To give back to the charity, over the last weekend in June, I will be participating in an exciting and strenuous marathon distance challenge of 45km along Hadrian’s Wall. I would really appreciate your sponsorship, however big or small, as I have to raise a minimum of £990. For those who know me well (and know my love of luxury), you might be inclined to sponsor me for staying in a youth hostel over the weekend!
