Story
I wrote a number of stories about the issue of homelessness in Leeds last year and met a rough sleeper called Brian. We sat near the bushes on the edge of a car park where he was sleeping at the time.
Brian talked to me about the social isolation he felt, the fear of drug addicts and drunks attacking him as he slept, the recent theft of his tent and waking up in a sleeping bag drenched by rain. He had been sleeping rough, on and off, for decades and found that his mental health issues made it hard for him to manage when he did secure a flat.
When I walk home through the city centre after a late shift, I often see people bedding down in doorways so I know there's still a huge demand for the services offered by organisations like Simon on the Streets.
If you can spare a little money to support the work of the charity then my taking part in their annual sleep out will be even more worthwhile.
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page and for your support,
Georgina
