Channel Relay Swim · 3 July 2020

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

We all need a challenge and a goal to keep motivated.

Challenge 1: Attempt English Channel Crossing in a 6 person relay Summer 2020

As a team of six we are training to cross the English Channel in summer 2020. In the process we are raising money for Aspire, a fantastic charity who provide assistive technology, independent living, housing and welfare benefit support to those with Spinal Injuries. I deeply value health, well being and independence. Life should be loved and explored and removing any barriers to this is where Aspire get involved and need our fundraising help to continue their practical support.

Challenge 2: Attempt 19km Swim with Joseph Ricciardi at Box End 27th June 2020 (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/joseph-ricciardi1)

Starting at 7am, we will be swimming 19km for covid-19, non-stop open water at Box End park. The equivalent of 760 lengths of a swimming pool in one go, this will be by far the longest swim that either of us have ever attempted and will be a testing challenge.

I am passionate about Open Water Swimming and have raced at National Level, at International Locations and in many Seas, Rivers and Lakes.

With the popularity of Open Water Swimming growing, the health benefits being researched, the accessibility of swimming to people of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes, this is a great time to promote Open Water Swimming Challenges and Aspire who enable people to achieve them.

Please support me in raising funds for this wonderful cause in any way you can.

Other fundraising ideas I intend to do:

- charity adult swimming lessons

- cake sales
