South Coast Challenge 2024 · 7 September 2024 ·

At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you. Visit www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk

Story

We are tackling the South Coast Ultra Challenge, walking/running100km over two days, to keep us two quiet for a couple of days and to accomplish something together which we will be proud of and for a good cause that is close to our hearts.

We both love pushing ourselves to our limit, and cancer has unfortunately affected both our lives, George with his Grandad David and Uncle Neil, and Louise with her brother, Ben and her mum, Julia.

Although there are so many charities we could have chosen to walk for, we have chosen to raise money for Young Lives Vs Cancer as they massively supported Louise’s brother when he was diagnosed with Non-hogkins lymphoma in December 2017 when he was 21.

Having received a terminal diagnosis in November 2018, Ben proved the Docs wrong and miraclesly got through it. Dan (Ben’s non identical twin) was a stem cell match! And gave Ben a stem cell transplant in 2019, and thankfully the cancer has gone! However, Ben still has a lot of side effects from the stem cell transplant graft versus host disease.

Ben is such an inspiration, he was still running ridiculous distances throughout his treatment and with cancer. And if that isn’t an inspiration I don’t know what is!

Young lives vs cancer helped Ben with financial support; days out and in talking to other charities for days out, grants and help getting back into employment. It’s so difficult for people with long term illnesses or disabilities to get back into work because bias does occur, so it is great that there are charities out there that support people.

Please sponsor if you can, every little helps. Thank you for your support ❤️
