Story
I'm running the Great South Run for #TeamStroke! I have been a Personal Trainer since 2008 and like to say I live a fit and healthy lifestyle, then in June 2020 my life changed as my girlfriend gave birth to our baby Evie, 6 weeks later to my surprise, and to the surprise of my client who is a stroke consultant at QA hospital in Portsmouth and happened to be on call that day, I had a stroke. This was quite a scary experience for me but with my specialism in my field of work being rehab and working with people with health conditions I knew what I had to do to get better again.
After a lot of testing to figure out the cause of it the heart specialists found that I had a PFO in my heart (slight hole) so in July of 2021 (1 year after my stroke) I had a heart procedure to fix it, 3 months after I beat my personal best 10k time at the Worthing 10k, my pace was helped by the fact I wanted to avoid being spotted by the ex. But in all seriousness training is one thing that kept me going.
Now I feel like I am in a position to help this great charity I have decided to run the Great South Run to help a cause that is very close to my heart 😜 (boom boom). In my experience strokes can be really hard to get your mind around and it's a hard old slog to recover from them, the Stroke Association help people along the way.
