The idea to do this long bike ride came when I looked at google maps to see how far it is from Filton to Witzenhausen.This is the journey Filton Twinning are taking by coach in July to meet up with their German twin town. Each year they visit either Witzenhausen, St Vallier-sur-Rhone or host visitors from the other towns here in Filton. The idea is to share our cultures, explore the area and make friends with people getting on with their lives in similar type towns to our own.

This year it is Witzenhausen's turn to host and we will be travelling around 700 miles to the town near the old East/West German border in the heart of the Germany, famous for its cherry orchard, cherry festival and joke festival .. it should be enjoyable for all.

So when I looked at the journey for some reason google showed me the route and distance by bicycle, which made me think that would be something possible to do; it would be an adventure for me.

Adventures I believe are the spice of life; something we all need. If successful, this fundraising will give local young people the opportunity to experience travel and broaden their horizons and friendships with a trip abroad, which they might not otherwise be able to afford or organise.
