BUPA Great North Run 2010 · 19 September 2010 ·

We’re the 10 million people living with arthritis in the UK. The carers, researchers and healthcare professionals. The family, friends and fundraisers. United by a clear vision: a future free from arthritis. One in which no one is limited by the pain, fatigue and isolation that arthritis can cause.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Andrea, my longest standing friend, and I have decided to take part in the Great North run this year and we are hoping to raise funds for Arthritis Research (thanks for the photo Andrea).

Why Arthritis Research you may ask?
Well, our great friend Leo has developed arthritis and the impact on her life has at times been significant.  Leo ran the GNR a few years ago and it seems only fitting to emulate her.

Like many others, we also know lots of other people with arthritis, such as my Mother.  Arthritis affects 350,000 people in the UK and results in stiff and painful joints which make movement difficult.  There is no cure and more research is necessary to help Arthritis Research take the pain away and keep people with arthritis active.

Why the Great North Run?
I did plan to take part in the Great North Run a few years ago (the same year as Leo), but couldn’t take part due to my husband Ged being ill.  I ran the Great South Run instead and really enjoyed running by the sea in Portsmouth, but at a  meagre 10 miles not quite a half marathon.  I have thought about running the GNR since then, but have never got round to it until Andrea suggested it this year.  As both Andrea and I are from Newcastle, it gives us an extra incentive to take part in this run.
