In Kumasi, there are over 400 special needs kids on a waiting list for an available school. Mentally challenged children simply sit at home all day, because they are not capable or thought to be not capable of doing anything. The Kumasi Children's Home and Primary School would gladly accept some of these children, but there is an issue with transportation. The majority of these children cannot walk to school unattended, and parents are unable to walk their child a long distance to school. The funds needed to buy a bus for these children would cost around 10,000 Ghana cedes, which translates to a little over 6,000 USD.
