Story

A Small Charity with Big Purpose!

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Ghana Education Project (GEP) is a registered UK charity looking to develop a free education system and sustainable socio-economic infrastructure in Nkwanta, a deprived area of North East Ghana.

Website: www.ghanaeducationproject.org.uk

Our founder trustee, Gill Norris, has coordinated our efforts in Nkwanta on a voluntary basis since she moved to live there in June 2004. Gill was awarded the MBE for her work with young people both in Ghana and in the UK.

The charity works closely with local Ghanaian authorities and our administration costs are virtually zero, so almost every penny you donate goes directly to teaching groups in order to achieve our goals. We have initiated many schemes to improve the quality of education and resources. To date the Project has:

- Financed & built the Kyabobo Centre: a community Sports, Arts & Culture centre
- Organised container shipments from the UK of school, medical & sports equipment
- Assisted more than 100 UK school children in visiting the region to see our work
- Financed, restored & equipped buildings for educational resources
- Run training courses for teachers and provided supporting resources
- Developed a literacy project to help Primary School pupils
- Initiated the Nkwanta Award scheme (similar to UK's Duke of Edinburgh scheme)
- Financed, restored & equipped buildings for the local Wildlife Trust

Our next and most ambitious project is to finance, construct, equip and launch a brand new School for Girls.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also a very efficient way to sponsor us: GHANA EDUCATION PROJECT (WORKING WITH TWGGS GHANA) gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

However, using the website does also carry a small admin charge, so if you are considering a larger donation, please contact us directly through our main website: www.ghanaeducationproject.org.uk
