Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro · 5 September 2018

OSCAR's PBTC was set up in memory of Oscar Hughes, a 9-year-old who died of a brain tumour in 2014. His journey was heartbreaking yet inspiring. OSCAR's aims to provide support and care to children with brain tumours, raise awareness to help diagnosis and fund research into better treatments.

Story

It's said that there's a time in life when there's more to look back on than perhaps to look forward to. Creeping above the 60 mark I may well have reached that point but don't necessarily agree with its sentiments. I believe there's still plenty of ambition for us grey heads to consider. So when the opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro, at 19,500 feet Africa's highest mountain, was presented it proved the point that wisdom doesn't always prevail and the challenge was accepted.

In early September I'll be off to Tanzania with high hopes of both reaching Killi's summit and importantly raising money for the fabulous charity Oscars. I'd like to thank everyone for their support and generosity in helping me to both continue looking forward and helping Oscars achieve their own long term goals.
