Hackney Half Marathon 2019 · 19 May 2019 ·

Christopher Horn was an exceptionally talented trumpet player, who died at the age of 25, having suffered from depression. During his relatively short career, he played with groups such as the London Sinfonietta, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia. Up until the time of his death Chris had been working as guest principal trumpet with The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Chris's passion for music was heightened during two formative years as principal trumpet with The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. During his time with the orchestra, Chris co-founded a chamber ensemble - Onyx Brass. Chris made many friends whilst studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and at the Royal Academy of music, and whilst playing in the European Union Youth Orchestra, Onyx Brass and the many other professional ensembles. Tragically in July 1999, Chris took his own life. The Trust was set up in his memory and supports young brass players in the advancement of their studies.

Story

Hello and thanks for checking out the page!

Kaitlin and Gideon shall be running the Virgin Hackney Half Marathon together on May 19th to help raise money for The Christopher Horn Trust.

For the past 19 years, the aim of the trust has been to advance the education of students under 25, either at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama or the Royal Academy of Music, with an award which may be used to assist with instrument purchases, tuition fees or masterclass/course fees.

Many recipients of the Christopher Horn Trust have since gone on to be professional musicians performing with the UK’s best orchestras and ensembles.

However this will be Gideon's first half marathon (having started his training in January 2019) and he has recently realised the challenge of running long distances… This will be Kaitlin’s second half marathon and they’re planning on running all 13.1 miles together!

For more information on Christopher Horn, please see his biography below. The charity is for a brilliant cause and will go a long way in helping today's students when education is now more expensive than it has ever been. Please donate or share this page with friends, family and fellow brass players.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

Gideon and Kaitlin
