The London Ambulance Service Voluntary Responder Group helps support ordinary members of the public who give their time to help save lives. Volunteers are equipped and trained to attend serious and life threatening incidents to help ensure that those in need receive help they need.

Story

I am raising funds for the London ambulance service voluntary responder group. My friend's life was saved on New Year's Day by people trained in CPR who responded within seconds of his collapse in our local park. Most cardiac arrests that occur outside of hospital sadly result in death, but with immediate intervention the chances of survival effectively double.

Following this incident the LAS have kindly donated a public use defibrillator to be kept at the park cafe and are training cafe staff and parkrunners in CPR and defibrillator use at no charge.

This is a small attempt to support them in their work to improve cardiac arrest survival rates by training members of the public in defibrillator use and life saving CPR.

Paramedics will arrive quickly but in cases of cardiac arrest immediate attention is needed to maximise survival chances. The more public access defibrillators that are available and the more people trained in CPR there are, the more lives can be saved.
