This April I’ll be undertaking my 1st marathon, running in memory of my Mum. 

After my Mum passed away I took a few years break from running but over the last couple of years, thanks to encouragement from my family, I’ve gradually built running and exercising back into my life which has helped enormously with some difficult times. Running a marathon, particularly in memory of my Mum, will be a challenging experience but I’m determined to make her proud and hopefully help to raise awareness of my chosen charity in the process. 

I’ll be raising money for Target Ovarian Cancer to help fund research and support and raise awareness of this type of cancer which can often go undetected until the later stages. The money raised here could help in so many ways, £10 could provide a guide for 6 women, £25 means 100 people could learn about the symptoms of ovarian cancer, £50 could help educate 100 GPs.

My mum was strong and courageous and I’m hoping to channel some of this on race day, she fought all the way and was determined throughout her treatment and multiple surgeries. She never gave up and I’ll be thinking about this when the going gets tough. I’d love to be able to talk to Mum about my marathon journey, we spoke pretty much every day, I know she’d be supportive and will be with me every step of the way.
