Story
I have set up this page in memory of my darling Mum, Jean Davis. My sisters and I received support and advice from the Admiral Nurses (one of the four core areas Dementia UK supports) which helped us to understand Mum's illness a lot better. This enabled us to give her the best possible quality of life we could right up until she died.
Around 820,000 people have dementia in the UK, some of whom are undiagnosed. It affects both men and women and is likely to affect you in older age, but younger people under the age of 65, can also have dementia.
The term Dementia is used to describe a group of symptoms which include memory loss, problems with reasoning and communication skills, and a reduction in a person's abilities and skills in carrying out daily activities such as washing, dressing, cooking and caring for themselves. The loss of such skills has a frightening and debilitating impact on the sufferer which, in turn, is heart-breaking for their loved ones as they try to maintain a quality of life for the sufferer.
Dementia UK relies on charitable donations to support it's mission which is to improve quality of life for all people affected by dementia.
£5 per month will provide necessary training for 2 carers, providing them with the skills needed to share their experiences whilst raising awareness of carers needs.
£10 per month will enable 4 care workers to receive specialist training, allowing them to deliver high quality professional care to people with dementia.
£50 will support 3 carers by providing specialist support and advice through the national Admiral Nursing DIRECT helpline.
