Ben Nevis Midnight Trek - July 5 · 5 July 2014 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Sisters Gill Dunn and Sue Spurway from Ilminster are taking up the Alzheimer’s Society Ben Nevis Midnight challenge on 5 July 2014.  They will aim to conquer Britain’s highest peak at night lit only by the moon and torchlight to raise funds for Alzheimer’s.  Their motivation is their dad, Pat Hodges; once a well-known Ilminster sportsman who now suffers from vascular dementia and is cared for in a Taunton Nursing Home.  Gill and Sue are aware that this will be a tough challenge but seeing someone so precious to their family go through dementia and the resulting changes to their dad's behaviour and personality has made them determined to do something for the Alzheimer's Society.  “ We know we will be raising funds to help support people with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.    We would also like to highlight the work of family and friends when caring for someone with dementia”.   A fundraising event held at the Shrubbery Hotel on Friday 31 January 2014 was well attended and raised over £1,000!    It was a great evening and thanks to everyone for their support. Further events have included a Darts evening at the Royal Oak, Ilminster and Quiz evening at the Gallery Cafe Bar & Bistro, Chard.   If there is a sponsor able to help towards the expenses for the trip, this would also be gratefully received.
