Gina's Wear it Pink for Breast Cancer Now Prize Draw

Wear it Pink for Breast Cancer Now Prize Draw · 22 October 2021
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Let me introduce myself :
My name is Gina Davidson, I’m 54 years old and I live in Alnwick with my wonderful husband and four children – well, they are not children anymore, they are all grown up now- two girls and two boys, they are my world. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2019 following my first routine mammogram. I hadn’t felt a thing myself.
I had a mastectomy, during which they took every bit of breast tissue, the nipple and the lymph nodes as well. My cancer was caught early, it hadn’t spread through my lymph nodes so thankfully I didn’t need any further treatment like radiotherapy - just hormone therapy. I opted for an immediate reconstruction using a muscle from my back, which was done at the time of the mastectomy. Two hours afterwards, I had a hematoma, so I had to go back into surgery for another five-hour operation. Since then I’ve had another surgery to increase the size of my breast and form a nipple. But I hated what it looked like, what it felt like and how it made me feel. My surgeon sent me for counselling with a health psychologist and after many appointments, he agreed to reverse the procedure and leave me flat. This final surgery happened in October 2020.
I decided that I wanted to turn my negative experience into something positive, so over the last year I have been fundraising for Breast Cancer Now - a charity that fund their world-class research and life-changing care for anyone affected by breast cancer. The coronavirus outbreak represents an unprecedented situation for all of us, but this continues to be an extremely difficult and uncertain time for so many people affected by breast cancer. Since March 2020, Breast Cancer Now have had to suspend hundreds of their life-changing community support events and courses - taking away a key lifeline for thousands of people. Whilst their incredible researchers lost around 230,000 hours of precious time in their labs last year because of the coronavirus. They need our support, now more than ever. This month I have taken on the challenge- Walk 100 Miles in May to try to help change the the future for breast cancer. My sponsorship for this walk amounted to £2866 !
To date, the total that I have raised for Breast Cancer Now is £4606 and I don’t want to stop there - which is why I have set up this prize draw.
Friday 22nd October is ‘Wear it Pink’ day to raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Now and I have organised this prize draw with all proceeds going to my chosen charity. Entries to the prize draw are a suggested £5 donation each. On 22 October- the draw will be done (with witnesses) and winners will be announced on social media.
